Spartan’s senior athletes were handed a double beating in the recent track & field inter-insular at Footes Lane. The men had little chance, shorn of Alan Harrison (European Masters), Paul Derrien (unavailable) and Lee Ward (injured). Those that travelled competed well at their specialist events but –sensibly- decided that there was no point in going through the motions in other events. We’ll be back Guernsey, don’t relax!

The women however sent quite a strong side and ran the home side close. Well done to Rebecca Orpin, Jenny Mullin, Mary Frawley and Barbara Parker, our stars on the day. Also to the rest of the team who backed them up superbly, including Janette Aubert, Karen Le Mottee and Viki Therin who gathered valuable place points in track events where we would otherwise have ben unrepresented. There is no reason at all why we can’t get this trophy back next year with this sort of spirit.

Guernsey are in good shape at senior level on this showing. Well done in particular to the excellent Dale Garland and Kimberley Goodhall, the latter breaking the inter-insular triple jump record at such a young age. Also to Adam Heaume who broke the men’s triple jump record.

Roll on the junior inter-insulars in September when we hope to gain a good deal of revenge. In the meantime, well done Guernsey.
